Founded in1873, Edwards and Symes Ltd, of Cubit Town (London) occupied the Britannia Yard, West Ferry Road, Millwall, in the late 1880's.
The dead of Mr Symes in 1895, most likely was the time the company changed name to Edwards and Co.
The yard mainly built vessels like ferries and small (shallow draft) steamers, but between 1895 and 1924, they also built some 14 non-selfpropelled and unnamed barges, varying from 64 GRT to 183 GRT, mainly for the dredging industry. Under the name of Edwards & Symes two barges were delivered in 1892 and 1894 respectively.
