In 1946, James Bellinger established the Bellinger Shipyards on a landlocked site on Bartram Road. Prior to relocating to a new site on Pablo Creek, the company had already built 21 boats. In 1962, the shipyard was acquired by Bill Lovett, simultaneously along with Gibbs and Rawls Brothers (formerly Merrill-Stevens). All were renamed Jacksonville Shipyards, Inc. In 1969, Lovett sold the Jacksonville Shipyards, Inc. to Fruehauf Corporation. Operations ceased in the early 2010s in anticipation of the site being redevelopment into condominiums. However, the proposed condominium complex failed to materialize.
