Canadian Dredge & Dock Co., Ltd., was organized in 1915, for the purpose of building the fourth Welland Canal: its facilities included a shipyard which maintained the company's large fleet of tugs and dredges, as CDD was originally the contractor for the works. At the outset of WWII, the Government tasked them with building a variety of small craft and after the war, they returned to being primarily a repair yard but continued as a boatbuilder on a small scale. The yard, which closed in 1999, was located on Wellington Street, where the Kingston Marina is now.
