About this equipment

HAM 208 had two main engines  made by Smit Bolnes, which ran at 375
rpm and each generated 1750 hp. In addition there was a 1000hp generator
which provided current for the cutter . There were also two MAN diesel
engines which were used to generate electricity for domestic purpose when the
main generator was not running, these two engines could also be clutched into
compressors to pump up the air for starting the main engines and the large
generator. HAM 208 was used to dredge material from Botany Bay which was used
to extend the runway at Sydney`s Mascot airport , this was in the early to
mid 1960`s .
